Officiate a match in the Live Tracker

This is the on-court guide for a member with the Official role (or an Owner or Admin acting as one). It assumes the Organization has chosen its rules under Settings › Match rules and that you’re tracking with Points or a deeper style; Games-only tracking gets pause reasons but not the full officiating set.

Steps

1. Start the match as official

Tap New Match, choose the Organization in Record to, pick the players, and select Live Tracking with a point-level style. Because you hold the Official role, Step 1 shows Record as official, on by default. The Format step shows the rules in force (“Rules: USTA Junior Tournament”). Start the match.

In official mode the tracker header carries the federation mark, the pause button is gone, and the bottom row has two buttons: Undo and Official.

2. Suspend and resume play

Tap Official. Rain and Darkness are one tap each: play is suspended, the timer strip shows “Paused since” and counts up, and the keypad is disabled while Undo stays available. Other lets you add a note. The status card offers Resume play and End for today. Everything is written to the match as a suspension with its duration.

3. Timeouts

Tap Official, then the player, then Timeout. Medical starts the countdown from the rules profile (3 minutes under ITF and USTA) and shows how many timeouts the player has used for this condition; when the count is used up the option is disabled with a hint. When the clock reaches zero you’re prompted to resume; the app never applies a violation on its own. Toilet, Coaching (only where the rules allow it), and Equipment work the same way without a countdown.

4. Code violations

Tap Official, the player, then Violation. The list of offences comes from the rules profile (profanity, racket abuse, verbal abuse, physical abuse, coaching, unsportsmanlike conduct, time violation, delay, and so on). The footer shows the player’s position on the ladder as W P G D chips and what the next step will be.

Pick the offence. The confirm sheet states the step (“Step 2 of 3 · Code violation”), the penalty name, and its effect in one sentence. Tap Apply. Smashpoint computes the score from the rules (a point penalty is scored as a lost point; a game penalty during a set tiebreak is loss of the set under USTA rules, and so on) and the score strip updates. A 10-second toast lets you undo; after that, use Void a violation under Correction.

Immediate default is available for a flagrant offence where the rules allow it and is outlined in red. Default and Retirement are also under End match on the Official sheet.

5. Correct the score

Under Official › Correct score: Reassign last point, Edit current game, Edit set score. Under a player’s Correction tab: Void a violation. Every correction is recorded with the before and after and your name; nothing is overwritten silently.

6. Sign off

When the match ends, the sign-off sheet shows the final score, a result type picker (Completed, Retired, Default, Walkover), violations per player, suspensions with total paused time, and a warning for any player without a linked USTA number. Each player can Acknowledge on your phone if your tournament wants that. Tap Sign off. The match is locked and shows the Sanctioned badge; no further events can be added.

Good to know

  • The phone never invents a score. Penalty effects come from the server using the rules profile. If you’re offline, actions queue in order and sync when you reconnect; the server’s result wins.
  • Long-press a player row in the score strip to jump straight to that player’s Official actions.
  • Tap a ladder badge to see that player’s violation history.
  • Joining a match already in progress. If a Coach or Full member started the match, attach as official from the match and the tracker switches to official mode on the next sync. The whole match becomes sanctioned.
  • Doubles. Under ITF and USTA rules a penalty on one partner is applied to the team; the ladder is tracked per team.
  • History. Every suspension, timeout, violation, correction, attach, and sign-off is a row on the saved match’s History tab. Voided points are struck through and hidden behind “Show voided”.
  • Versions. Official mode is in iOS 3.5 and Android 1.5 and later.
