Personal account or Organization: which one do I need?
Every Smashpoint user has a personal account. An Organization is something you add on top of it when a program, not a person, needs to own the data. Here’s how to tell which you need.
Steps
1. Ask who tracks
If one person tracks or logs the matches (you, or you plus the parents and friends you connect with), a personal account is enough. Results land on your home stream, you can rank players in a Group, and nothing needs administering.
If more than one person records matches for the same program (assistant coaches, players, several parents), you want an Organization. Everyone becomes a Member and every result is stored with the Organization, whoever tracked it.
2. Ask who should own the history
On a personal account, the matches belong to the account that recorded them. If that coach leaves, the history goes with them.
In an Organization, roster, results, rankings, ladders, and tournaments belong to the Organization. Coaches and admins can change and nothing is lost. Add a second Owner so the Organization is never tied to one person.
3. Ask what you want to run
A personal account gives you match tracking, Match Profiles, ELO, head-to-head, and Groups with rankings.
An Organization adds ladders (Leap Frog or Accrual), tournament brackets, scheduled practice sessions, side-by-side player comparison, the Leaders view, roster import, Guest opponents, home and away matches, and a public page for the Organization.
Good to know
- Trials. A personal account gets 7 days of every feature, then switches to View mode (results stay visible; new results need Pro). An Organization gets a 14-day trial with no credit card, then read-only until a plan is active.
- Pro. On a personal account, logging matches, the Live Tracker, and Groups need Pro. In an Organization, every member who plays gets Pro included.
- You keep your personal account. Joining or creating an Organization doesn’t replace it. The user menu at the top right of the web app switches between your personal account and every Organization you have access to.
- Billing. An Organization pays by active players, not headcount. View members are always free.
