Set up a tournament bracket
Tournaments are an Organization feature, run by Owners and Admins in the web app. You pick the players or teams, Smashpoint builds a single-elimination bracket, seeds it by ELO if you like, hands out byes, and moves winners forward as you enter results.
Steps
1. Details
Go to Tournaments and click +. Enter a Tournament Name, a Start Date, and Gender (Male, Female, or Mixed). Choose the Draw Size (8, 16, 32, or 64) and switch on Doubles if it’s a doubles event. You can also add an End Date, a Location, a Match Format (best of three or five sets, a single set, a pro set, a 10-point match tiebreak, or Custom), a Playing Level, a Fee, a Prize, a description, and a photo. Fee and Prize are information for players; Smashpoint doesn’t collect fees on your behalf.
2. Roster
Tick the members who are playing. The list shows every member who can play (Owner, Admin, Coach, Full) with their ELO or “Unranked”. Use Filter players… for a big roster and the Selected Players toggle to check your entries. For a doubles tournament you pair members into teams instead.
You need at least 2 entries, and no more than the draw size. You don’t have to fill the draw: empty spots become byes.
3. Seeding
The draw size sets the number of seeds: 2 for an 8-draw, 4 for a 16-draw, 8 for a 32-draw, and 16 for a 64-draw. Click Seed by ELO to seed the highest-rated entries in rating order, Random to pick seeds at random, or click players to seed them by hand. Seeding is optional; an unseeded draw is fine. In a doubles tournament a team is ranked from its two players’ ELO ratings, and a team with an unranked player counts as unranked.
4. Review and generate
Check the summary: format, draw size, entries, seeds, and how many byes will be awarded (byes go to the top seeds first). Click Generate Draw. Smashpoint opens the tournament on the Draw tab as a draft.
While it’s a draft you can still change the draw. In the first round, use the swap icon on an entry, then tap the entry you want to swap with and confirm. Regenerate draw builds a new random draw. To add or remove an entry, choose Edit, change the roster, and click Generate Draw again.
5. Finalize
When the draw is right, click Finalize in the draft banner and confirm. The draw is locked, so there’s no more regenerating or swapping, and you can start recording results. The tournament is now Active.
Running the tournament
Open the tournament from the Tournaments list. It has four tabs:
- Draw: the bracket, round by round (R1, R2, then QF, SF, and F). Seeds are numbered, byes are marked, a walkover shows as W/O, and scores appear on each match as results are entered.
- Schedule: matches by day, with Unscheduled as the first choice in the day strip. Set the day, court, and start time from a match’s Schedule tab.
- Results: every completed match.
- Info: everything from the Details step, and when the draw was finalized.
Entering results
Click a ready match on the Draw tab. The sheet has three tabs: Schedule, Link Match, and Enter Score.
- Enter Score records the result. Set the date and start time, enter the set scores, and pick the winner (or leave it on Auto to take it from the score). To record a walkover or a disqualification, choose it as the Reason; the save button becomes Award Walkover or Confirm Disqualification. A retirement is saved with the score as it stood, using Save Score.
- Link Match lists earlier matches between the two players so you can link one to the bracket. That includes a match you tracked live. It’s available for singles only.
The winner moves to the next round automatically. You can’t change a result once the next round’s match has been decided.
Good to know
- Owners and Admins run tournaments. Only they can create a tournament, open it, or enter results; Coaches, Full members, and View members can’t. Members see decided results in the Organization’s home activity feed.
- Who can be entered. Members who can play (Owner, Admin, Coach, Full). View members and Guests can’t be entered; convert a Guest to Full first.
- Doubles. Doubles tournaments are supported. Only Link Match isn’t available for doubles yet, so enter the score instead.
- Status. A tournament is a Draft until you finalize it, Active while it’s being played, and Completed once the final is recorded. Filter the Tournaments list by All, Active, Draft, or Completed. After you finalize, Edit only changes the Details; Draw Size and Doubles are locked.
- Deleting. Choose Delete from the ⋮ menu to remove a tournament. You’ll be asked to confirm.
- Billing. Being entered in a finalized draw counts a member as an active player for that month, whether or not they play a match.
- Printable brackets. Editable single-elimination bracket templates for 8, 16, and 32 players (US Letter and A4 PDFs) are free at smashpoint.pro/bracket-templates, no account needed.
